Youth Group Game: Pewsball

We played a game last night that came together really quickly and abruptly last minute as we ditched our initial plans. Our Youth Room has pillars every 8 feet to support the floor above it, and each of those pillars has a square counter that is right around injury-prone height. So typically, the games we play involve a lot of sitting or casual walking around.

Last night we decided to take our students into our sanctuary and turn it into a giant fuseball table, which I never would have thought possible because we have pews.

Boy, was I wrong. It’s because we have pews that this game worked so well!

You need to make two teams and then have teams occupy alternating rows of pews, but facing different directions. Our Sanctuary has 4 sections spanning its width, so we let student use the entire span of their row, but students had to stay in their row. Depending on the group size, you can either have one person per row or several per row, but its best to spread out completely from front to back of sanctuary.

With the board set, we took a big beach ball and tossed it up. One team had to get it to the back of the sanctuary, the other row had to get it to the front. You could also very easily set up goals using chairs at the front and back of the room, but using the whole width made it easier at times and much more challenging at others.

Fantastic, I know what I’m doing Sunday. Unfortunately the sanctuary is going to be used tonight by another church group. I haven’t gotten in trouble here yet, but maybe its time for a little bit of mischief.
